Holistic Series: A Practical Guide to Creating Mystical Laundry Products
I am a practitioner who loves my home! It is where I do and create most of my workings, products and crafts. I believe every practitioner has the right to discover holistic lifestyles and alternatives to mainstream consumerism. I dream of one day living on my own homestead and farm combo. I also have many sensitivities to chemicals and find it hard to buy a lot of products from the grocery store. This little recipe guide for the beginner holistic witch/practitioner is perfect for those trying to make a more sustainable change in their daily routines!
Simple Laundry Detergent
This one is a classic passed down by grandmothers and mothers in the home. I myself use this recipe quite often since my husband works a blue color job and often his clothes need a good washin'!
2 ounces of washing soda (any brand but I prefer Arm & Hammer)
2 ounces of borax
1 ounce of grated castile soap
A few drops of Lavender Essential oil (or any scent that you prefer, lemon works wonders!)
A few drops of Rosemary Essential oil (or any scent that you prefer)
Combine all of this in a bowl and make sure it is well combined. Transfer the mixture into an airtight container and use as you would any other regular washing powder!
Rose Rinse for Laundry
Now this next recipe requires a bit of time to make. You will need at least a couple of weeks too make a potent rinse. If you do not like rose or have a sensitivity, I like to use lavender instead. Do try different variations as it is very customizable!
2 pint rose water (or your floral water of choice)
1 ounce fresh rose and lavender flowers
2 ounces of orris root
4 drops of clove oil (you can also switch this out for an oil of your choice)
Place all of the ingredients in an air tight glass jar to make sure it does not get anything inside. Shake it gently to immerse the flowers. Then leave it on a sunny windowsill for 14 days. Make sure to strain the liquid before use. You can add a teaspoon to the final rinse water of your clothes to make a heavenly scent!
Reduce Static Rinse / Scented Natural Dryer Sheets
This is a combined recipe as both are very simple and require minimal time and effort.
RINSE
Just add white vinegar or a small amount of baking sofa to the rinse cycle to avoid static cling. If you would like it too smell nice you can also drop some essential oils of your choice to scent the clothes during the cycle.
Dryer Sheets
Put a few drops of your favorite essential oils onto a washcloth and add to the dryer load. It really is that simple!
Now I hope these easy recipes encourage you in your hearth and home craft as well as natural DIY!
